A Free iLovePDF Alternative With No Account

If you use iLovePDF's free Basic plan, which its pricing page listed in September 2026 with "Limited document processing", a free iLovePDF alternative may cover your everyday tasks. ProPDF offers 21 PDF tools with no account and no daily quota.

This page matches common tasks to ProPDF tools, explains how to switch and lists what you would give up. ProPDF has no OCR, no desktop or mobile app and no signature requests, so read that list before you switch.

Why choose ProPDF

  • Free, with no account, no subscription and no daily quota
  • 13 of the 21 tools run entirely in your browser, so the file is not sent anywhere
  • The other eight send the file over HTTPS to a server in Paris, which deletes it when the task ends; the chat keeps the text and the conversation in your tab, not on the server
  • No ads, and Google Analytics cookies only if you accept them
  • No watermark on your files, whatever the tool
  • Available in six languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese and Russian

Key features

Merge and split on your device

Merge joins as many PDFs as your device's memory allows, in the order you drag them, into merged.pdf. Split works four ways: pages picked on thumbnails, typed ranges, every page on its own, or a fixed number of pages per part.

Compression in three levels

Compress offers three levels, from light to strong. It shrinks the images of image-heavy PDFs, keeps real text sharp and selectable, and never returns a file larger than the original.

Word conversions both ways

PDF to Word turns a digital PDF into an editable .docx whose positioned text boxes normally approximate the layout of each page; if that conversion fails, a second converter builds the file differently. Word to PDF uses LibreOffice and accepts .docx, .doc, .odt and .rtf files of up to 4 MB.

Redaction and a password

Redact lets you draw boxes over personal data; the text under them is removed from the page, not just covered, so none of it is left under a box to see, select or copy, and the form fields, comments and links under a box go with it. The document title and author, bookmarks and the files attached to the document stay in the file, so check them too, and the accessibility tags of a tagged PDF lose the redacted text too, except in rare cases. Protect adds AES-256 encryption, and the password is then required to open the file.

Chat with a PDF

Ask questions about a digital PDF of up to 4 MB and 500 pages, or press the summary button; past about 280,000 characters of text (70,000 in Chinese, Japanese or Korean), only the pages that fit in the first 240,000 (60,000 in those languages) are read. Answers come from a Claude model (Anthropic) through Amazon Bedrock with a European inference profile, in the language of your question.

Common tasks and the ProPDF tool for each

  • Combine several PDFs: Merge, in your browser.
  • Pull pages out or cut a file into parts: Extract pages or Split, in your browser; when Split makes several parts, they download as a ZIP.
  • Reorder, rotate or delete pages: Organize, Rotate PDF or Delete pages, on page thumbnails; wait for the last one before you change or save anything. Organize has no step-by-step undo, but Reset changes restores the original pages.
  • Shrink a file: Compress, on the server, for files up to 4 MB.
  • Convert to or from Word: PDF to Word and Word to PDF, on the server.
  • Turn pages into images, or images into a PDF: PDF to JPG, PDF to PNG and JPG to PDF, in your browser.
  • Sign your own document: Sign, in your browser, with a drawn, typed or imported signature.
  • Compare two versions, where iLovePDF lists Compare PDF: Compare, in your browser, with word differences highlighted in text mode. It compares sets of words, so a change in word order can go unnoticed: check the documents too.
  • Hide personal data, where iLovePDF lists Redact PDF: Redact, which removes the text under the boxes you draw.
  • Change existing text: Edit, with Helvetica, Times or Courier and Latin letters with common Western European accents only, plus X marks and signatures, but no new text boxes, shapes or freehand drawing.
  • Get a summary, where iLovePDF lists an AI Summarizer: the summary button of Chat with PDF.
  • Lock or unlock a file: Protect, with AES-256, and Unlock, which needs the current password.
  • Mark pages: Watermark and Page numbers, in your browser.

Switching in practice

There is nothing to install and no account to create: open a tool, add your file and download the result. Sign and Protect add a suffix to your file name, so report.pdf becomes report_signed.pdf or report_protected.pdf; Merge saves merged.pdf.

After most tools that produce a PDF, a "File ready" panel offers up to four next tools, such as Compress or Sign after Merge. It hands over the same file, so you do not pick it again, and the hand-off is lost if you reload the page.

Server tools take files up to 4 MB. If a PDF is larger, split it in your browser first, where only your device's memory limits the size, then process the parts. A password-protected PDF is the exception: browser tools do not support it, even when it opens without asking for a password, so remove the protection first with Unlock PDF, a server tool, if you know the password.

iLovePDF features you would give up

  • OCR: iLovePDF lists OCR PDF on every plan, while ProPDF has no OCR: the chat and the Text mode of Compare need a PDF with real text, and PDF to Word keeps scanned pages as images.
  • Apps: ProPDF has no desktop or mobile app, and it needs an internet connection.
  • Signature requests: iLoveSign sends documents to others for signing, while ProPDF only places your own visual signature, with no certificate, timestamp or audit trail.
  • Conversions to Excel, PowerPoint and Markdown, and HTML to PDF.
  • Forms: iLovePDF's PDF Forms creates and fills fillable PDFs, while ProPDF's Edit can tick boxes with an X and place a signature on a form, but it does not fill the form fields or add text in an empty area.
  • Crop, repair and translate tools, and editing with shapes or freehand annotations.
  • Custom workflows: ProPDF only suggests a next tool once a PDF is ready.

How ProPDF handles your files

The 13 browser tools (merge, split, organize, rotate, delete and extract pages, watermark, page numbers, sign, compare, and the conversions between PDF and JPG or PNG) process the file on your device and send it nowhere.

Compress, PDF to Word, Word to PDF, edit, redact, protect, unlock and the chat send the file over HTTPS to a ProPDF server on AWS in Paris (eu-west-3). The file is processed there, then deleted as soon as the task ends. With the editor, this happens when you open the PDF and again each time you change it.

Chat with PDF keeps the document text and the conversation in your tab and sends them with each question; the server keeps neither once it has answered. Audience-measurement cookies from Google Analytics are set only if you consent, and no page shows ads.

Which One to Choose

ProPDF can replace iLovePDF for everyday PDF tasks at no cost, with no account, and 13 of its tools keep the file on your device. It does not replace iLovePDF for OCR, apps, signature requests, forms or conversions to Excel and PowerPoint; if you rely on those, keep iLovePDF for them and use ProPDF for the rest.
